Dot Flake Art – Hole Punch Creativity

The scraps produced by hole punches are often called “punch waste.” But we’ve reimagined them and given them a new name: Dot Flakes. These little circles of paper transform from “waste” into a creative tool that sparks endless possibilities for children.

This downloadable activity allows children to use Dot Flakes to create beautiful artwork. By punching colorful or shiny paper and gluing the Dot Flakes onto a template, kids can decorate pre-drawn designs like clothing, pajamas, or socks—or unleash their creativity and come up with their own unique creations. The possibilities are endless, limited only by their imaginations.

For a more engaging experience, we recommend using shiny or glittery paper to make the Dot Flakes. The sparkle and shine add an extra layer of excitement, encouraging children to dive into their projects with enthusiasm.

Using tweezers can also help children refine their fine motor skills. Lightweight, plastic tweezers are ideal for small hands, making it easier and less tiring for children to pick up and place the Dot Flakes. However, tweezers aren’t required—most kids can skillfully use their little fingers to pick up and glue the pieces.
